AND watch the BNP Paribas WTA Finals in Singapore October 25-November 1. It should be interesting to see how Serena performs after her disappointment at the US Open.

September’s Tip of the Month: Be Consistent with Your Service Toss

All tennis players – from the beginner to adult recreational players to top pros – can improve their serve simply by improving the consistency of their service toss. Keys to a consistent toss are extension of your tossing arm from the shoulder, keeping your tossing arm up and your eyes on the ball, and “placing” the ball where you want it.

The term “toss” is actually a misnomer: the idea isn’t to “to throw, pitch, or fling, especially to throw lightly or carelessly” (as defined by www.dictionary.com), but rather to place the ball in an ideal position for your serve.

This WSJ article¬†and video shed light on the significant impact of Serena’s service toss on her results. Serena is not the only outstanding service toss example: of course there is also Roger Federer’s example. Below is a video drill to help you improve your toss.
